SAINT INNOCENT'S ACADEMY

is located in the great land of Alaska where adventure and education go hand in hand. On the shores of an island in the small town of Kodiak, life at the Academy ranges from academic studies to boat building, from community life to a subsistence life of fishing on the ocean.

Saint Innocent's Academy is a high school educational opportunity for young men ages 15 to 21. It is more than just a school in the ordinary sense. It is a community of young men striving together for a good well-rounded education that will last a lifetime. The Academy is both a live-in boarding school and a day school for the surrounding community.

CURRICULUM

The ultimate goal of Saint Innocent's Academy is not just the acquisition of skills but the full realization of the person - spirit, soul and body - through learning the most essential skill: the discipline of relating truthfully to oneself, to society and to God. With this in mind the academy's curriculum is designed to educate in this three-fold way:

Theology

Classical Academics

& Craftsmanship

THEOLOGY

Theology and religious studies are necessary for a true, whole education as it addresses and answers the most important questions that a person asks himself: Why do I exist? Where did I come from? And where am I going? Saint Innocent's Academy answers these questions according to the traditional Orthodox Christian worldview, which is the basis for a strong spiritual and intellectual education.

CLASSICAL ACADEMICS

In education, once the foundation of the meaning of life is laid, it is important to expose the student to the classics, which are now being forgotten. The classics never fail to ennoble and inspire the student to grow in wisdom and in virtue. A classical education consists of the best in classical literature, philosophy, academics, art and music. Through these the well-rounded education of the soul is completed.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

In the education of young men, Saint Innocent's Academy places great importance on the teaching of craftsmanship, industrial arts and trades. This provides the student with skills and a sense of accomplishment, as well as a wide range of future opportunities.

This part of the program consists of wood and metal boat building, carpentry and construction, agriculture and animal husbandry, and all that involves a subsistence life style in the last frontier of Alaska.

Through this Alaskan adventure in education young men can explore life and learn about its ultimate meaning; they can be given the chance to climb and conquer the mountains of life and the mountains within. Only, who will dare to . . .
